A new school year began for Richmond County students this morning, and if one word describes the first day at Cross Creek High, it was loud.

Students shifting classrooms at the end for first period this morning sounded like a dull roar.

Teachers and administrators appeared to swim through crowds, trying to get to classrooms or other assignments, and anyone trying to talk almost had to shout to be heard.

Cross Creek has roughly 1,288 students starting today, but in the school hallways, their numbers looked larger.
