Whole Foods to help Paine in fundraising goal

Whole Foods Market in Augusta will donate 5 percent of its net sales to Paine College on July 28, according to the school.

Paine is in the midst of a fundraising program as it awaits a decision next month on its appeal of a recommendation to discontinue the school’s accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on College. The association made the recommendation in June that Paine be dropped from its membership after two years on probation because it did not meet three financial standards: financial resources and stability; financial stability; and control of sponsored research/external funds.

The school has announced a fundraising goal of $5 million. Late last month Paine officials said it had reached $4.1 million in contributions.

Whole Foods is located at 2907 Washington Road and is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to a news release by Paine on the planned donation.
