The Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition title is awarded annually to students who score the highest on their Scholastic Achievement Test and who are in the top 10 percent of their class.
Nolan Thomas Brandon, a senior at Augusta Preparatory Day School, earned the regional title over STAR students from 10 other counties: Burke, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, McDuffie, Richmond, Warren, Washington and Wilkes.
STAR students choose a teacher who they believe has been the biggest influence on their academic career to be their STAR teacher. Brandon chose Augusta Prep math teacher Tim Shafer.
At the banquet, held at First Baptist Church in Thomson, the STAR students from each county gave a brief speech, and introduced their STAR teachers, who also spoke about their STAR student.
Brandon will represent Region 7 in the contest for the state STAR title, which will be announced at a banquet in Atlanta in late April.
He plans to attend the United States Naval Academy in the fall.
