Augusta Kiwanis Club selects top STARs on Monday

The Augusta Kiwanis Club will announce Richmond County’s top STAR student and teacher among 11 school finalists at its annual banquet Monday.

STAR students are chosen for their individual schools by having the highest score on any single test date of the three-part SAT and being in the top 10 percentile of their class.

Each student also names a STAR teacher who has been the most supportive in his or her achievement. After a district winner is named Monday, he or she will then compete for region-wide honors in the 12 STAR regions of Georgia.

The STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program was founded in 1958 and is sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators and the Georgia Department of Education.
