Comedian Bill Cosby is coming to Augusta for an invitation-only comedy hour at Paine College.

Cosby will appear at the Health Education Activities Learning Complex at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11., the college announced Wednesday. The event is dedicated to Paine’s faculty and staff members.

“We will celebrate the men and women of the faculty and staff who work tirelessly to contribute to the College’s success and those who facilitate the living and learning environment for our students,” Paine College President George Bradley said in a statement.

Cosby was the commencement speaker at Paine’s 2003 graduation ceremony, at which he was awarded an honorary doctorate.

The comedian earned a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts. Cosby is known for inspiring students to pursue education and advanced degrees.

During his upcoming visit, Cosby will greet the incoming freshman class, returning upperclassmen, alumni, friends and supporters.
