The news magazine quoted GRU President Ricardo Azziz on the logistics of the process and the financial and academic benefits of such a venture.
“Size matters, even in academia,” Azziz said in the article published online Friday. “A lot of times we talk about students preferring small colleges, and that may be true, but it is much more costly to maintain all of the moving parts at a small college than at a larger university.”
Azziz also commented on the diplomacy and savvy required in a consolidation process and the necessity for time to prove the benefits.
According to the Time article, the spiraling costs of running separate institutions during a time of rising tuition and reduced state funding has led to an increase of consolidations across the country.
