GRU officials agree to avoid Regent University colors

No maroon Jaguars in Augusta.

That unlikely combination is forbidden in an agreement signed last week settling a lawsuit between the Georgia Board of Regents and Regent University in Virginia.

Two of the main stipulations in the agreement say GRU must refrain from using a color similar to the Virginia school’s maroon and must not establish a school of theology in Augusta, said Burns Newsome, the University System of Georgia’s vice chancellor for legal affairs.

That means divinty degrees also are off the table, Newsome said.

Luckliy, GRU officials said they won’t have to scrap current plans to comply with those terms.

“Our colors are blue and silver and we do not have any plans to create a theology school,” said GRU spokeswoman Christen Carter.

The settlement was drafted June 12 and signed Wednesday by Regent University President Carlos Campo.

The Virginia school’s lawsuit, which sought damages and to bar the Georgia system from using the name Georgia Regents, was filed in September after the new name for the merged Georgia Health Sciences and Augusta State universities was announced. Regent University claimed the Georgia school’s name constituted trademark infringement and unfair competition.

The settlement states Regent University will dismiss the lawsuit within five days of the agreement’s execution. Newsome said the agreement confirms the two schools can continue using their respective names without restriction.

“We don’t want there to be confusion between our two universities any more than they do,” he said.

Oh, good.

There are enough schools on ancient fiction already. No one will be embarassed at the significant medical college by the observation that despite billions of hours of tearful begging on behalf of millions of people, not one amputee has ever deserved to have a limb restored by prayer.
Somehow, healing has always been subject to the law of cause and effect, even when it is not understood.

Lawyers’ Fees

GRU will surely pay Regent University’s fees for counsel - - - - and a whole lot more.

Seems to me that if Pat Robertson University was serious about spreading the Gospel, they would want theology schools on every corner. Evidently the Gospel takes back seat when perceived lucrative trademarks are on the table. I wonder if they appreciate how worthless their branding will be on the Day of Judgement? Probably not. Luckily The Enemy will have another kind of branding all lined up for false prophets and their money lenders from the temple.

I was almost hoping for a trade:

Azziz for Robertson plus two lower level Deans to be named a later date. At least Robertson would have supplied a lot of humor without screwing up 2 schools.

Meat on that bone..haha

They should give Pat Robertson carte blanche to speak on their behalf....now that would just about take care of Augusta Ga as we know it!!

You may not agree with him

but Pat Robertson is a whole lot more appealing in terms of leadership ability and personal character attributes than one well-known and despised leader involved in this fracas. Robertson is not stupid, even if some are too blinded by their bigotry and hate to know that, and he knows how to run a huge enterprise without destroying either its unique identity or the morale and mental well being of its employees and supporters.

We all would fare inestimably better with someone of Pat Robertson's character and outlook at the Borg's helm than with the self-aggrandizing egomaniac that crouches there now.

And we're not actually "stuck with it" forever,

thank the Lord. Many of us may not live to see it change, but this affront of a name is likely not to last very long after Azziz leaves and the Bored of Regents is repopulated with genuine vertebrates.

School of Theology ?

I am going to assume that the other Regents University is a School of Theology. If so, then how did they bring themselves to start a law suit.

A story of two imbeciles.

A story of two imbeciles. Here we have a rabid-right-wing-nut member of the religious industry (Imbecile #1) striking a deal with a pompous, corrupt and self-aggrandizing member of the "education" industry (Imbecile #2). The thing that would be more worthless at GRU than a school of education, would be a school of theology. Maybe GRU can initiate an exchange program -- Roberterson could visit and teach "creationism" in the biology department -- including that part about dinosaurs wearing saddles and bridles.
