A Richmond County school system transportation department manager was arrested early Sunday and charged with DUI and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
Janet Blue-Freeman was arrested about 1 a.m. on Windsor Spring Road, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report.
Blue-Freeman is an operational manager 2 and is responsible for the overall planning of routes and distribution of drivers on routes. She also certifies new bus drivers in conjunction with the Georgia State Patrol, according to Deputy Superintendent Tim Spivey.
Spivey said Blue-Freeman does not operate a school bus on a daily basis but is qualified and drives one when there is an extreme emergency.
School system employees who are charged with a DUI are usually issued a letter of advisement. Spivey said his staff has not yet issued Blue-Freeman any discipline or an advisement letter but will review information from the sheriff’s office and consult with the board attorney.
Spivey said Blue-Freeman took a vacation day Monday and was not at work.
