The Richmond County School System Transportation Department will hold a job fair to recruit bus drivers Thursday.

Director Jimmie Wiley said applicants should have a clean driving record, a positive attitude and a love for children.

The district provides free training for qualified hires who do not hold a commercial drivers license.

Wiley said schedules are available for those who want to work full time, only mornings or evenings, or for special events.

The fair will take place at the transportation headquarters at 2950 Mike Padgett Highway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Oh My goodness,

I forsee a mess in the making...Why don't they try working with the drivers they have? They train and hire all those new drivers, whom over half will quit or be fired after the first two years... Why not give pay raises to the drivers who have been there for years?

How are they going to keep up with who is driving, cleaning and fueling the buses, with all those part time workers? They can't even do that with the full time workers.... Are they going to give them the new buses like they did the new hires a few years ago? Go check the accident records and see how that worked ...LOL!!

What do they mean by a clean driving record? No tickets, ever, in your entire life?

Pay raises

Some extra pay & overtime for the workers you already have would make more need quality not quantity..

Man, the ONLY way I'd drive a school bus if I knew they would allow me to handle "problems" like my old bus drivers, Mr. Toole and Mr. Bailey, used to handle them! If we were too loud or too rambunctious, they would pull that bus over and tell us that we weren't moving until all of us SHUT UP! It worked, and nobody got smacked and nobody's civil rights were infringed upon!! If our parents asked why we were late getting home, we'd tell them the reasons and they would just nod their heads and have no problem with it! I think if some hauty Momma would've climbed on the bus to protect her baby and yell at either of those men, she would've heard an earful right back!
Can I do any of that???
