Board members unanimously approved Carraway as the successor to retiring Superintendent Charles Nagle following a 2½-month search.
Carraway, who received a standing ovation from the audience, was chosen out of 18 candidates. She was named the lone finalist in November after another candidate dropped out of the running.
Carraway is a Harlem High School graduate and has spent all but three of her professional career with the county’s school system.
Carraway will officially be the county’s next schools superintendents once she finishes contract negotiations.
