School system to sell surplus furniture Wednesday

Desks, tables and refrigerators will be sold at the Richmond County School System’s surplus furniture event Wednesday.

The district offers outdated items to the public periodically throughout the year when enough furniture accumulates in storage, said Adam Flono, the director of maintenance and custodial services.

He said as buildings are renovated, older furnishings are replaced with up-to date items. The money from the sale goes to the district’s general fund.

Flono said the sale attracts everyone from businesses owners and churches to parents looking for furniture to fill up an office.

“Sometimes parents will come in and just get a little desk their child can do their homework on,” Flono said.

Jeanesta Moody, an auction capital asset clerk, said the sale is a good way to find used furniture in good condition.

Wednesday’s sale will feature kitchen items and stoves along with office supplies.

“It’s like a little flea market or garage sale,” she said.
