The search for the next leader of the Columbia County School System begins today.

Applications for the school superintendent position will remain open from today until Oct. 17.

Current Superintendent Charles Nagle announced in late July that he would retire after the 2012-2013 school year. Nagle, who served in the post for six years, has spent 37 years in education.

Applicants must have 10 years experience, including time spent as a district-level administrator, school-level administrator and teacher, according to a list of minimum qualifications for potential candidates.

Also specified on the criteria list is that applicants have a “good moral character” and an education specialist degree in Administration and Supervision or Educational Leadership.

A real search?

The last search was mostly for show - Nagle was always going to get the job. I felt sorry for the candidate who flew all the way in for what he thought to be a legitimate interview.

It was kind of interesting that CCBOE removed the doctorate requirement for this hire process - they ignored it last time, anyway, because Nagle did not have one.

Obviously this time around there again exists an inside favorite. However, I hear she is not universally loved. Question is, will another strong local (like anyone thinks CCBOE will really someone without strong local ties) candidate enter the race?

Already hers.
Unpublished

Local Interest, the job is already hers. It was hers 6 years ago. The application process is only cover up to make things look good, nothing more.
