Ga. college plans 3-year degree program

  • Follow Education

ATLANTA - Georgia Perimeter College this fall will begin offering bachelor's degrees that are designed for students to earn in three years.

College President Anthony Tricoli bills it as the state's first three-year bachelor's of arts degree program.

The degrees will be in accounting and business management and will involve a partnership between Georgia Perimeter, a two-year college with campuses throughout metro Atlanta, and Georgia Southwestern State University, a four-year college in Americus.

Tricoli says students in Georgia Perimeter's program would take more than the typical 12 to 15 credit hours a semester. They would spend a year and a half with Georgia Perimeter, then finish the program through Georgia Southwestern.

justus how do you figure that? It doesn't say on the degree how long it takes to get one. I know people that took 6 years to get the BS/BAs. I did mine in 3 by taking multiple summer classes. They're just as difficult a regular semester.

As long as the credit hours required for the degree are the same I don't see the problem. I finished a four year college degree in 3 1/2 years by going summers also.

I think this is just a marketing gimmick by these colleges. Anyone can get a degree in 3 years if they go during the summer and also take extra hours each semester.

This is a mistake. A three-year degree will undermine the four-year degree, which will complicate an already horrible education environment. On the other hand, things can't get much worse.....Gasp! For once, I agree with you. Taking more than 15 semester hours may be OK for a straight A, truly consciencious student, but not the avergage student. Those going during the summer sessions take less hours as the terms are shorter. I see lower academic standards in this program. The State should not approve it.

Sounds like accelerated semesters and/or quarters. Nothing wrong with that. Some colleges do this already. Think outside the box.
