Burke County officials confirmed that a man’s body was found Thursday afternoon in Keysville.

According to Burke County Coroner Susan Salemi, the man has been identified as 68-year-old Forrest Lamar Dowdy. Deputies located his body around 2 p.m. According to the coroner, Mr. Dowdy left his home around 2 a.m. while his wife was sleeping.

“The well outside Mr. Dowdy’s house wasn’t working, and when he went outside to check on it his wife believes he got confused and never made it back,” Salemi said. “Mr. Dowdy had a lot of medical history.”

The exact time of death is unclear, but Salemi says Dowdy had been deceased for approximately 12 hours before he was found.

Officials said no foul play is suspected.

Very sad for his family.

Very sad for his family. My son works for Burke County and he was a little shaken up by it. Prayers to all involved. Losing a loved one is never easy.

Good Lord, some years back

Good Lord, some years back there was a spate of bodies turning up in Burke County. I hope this isn't going to happen again.

Prayers and condolences to this family. Even with medical problems, it is hard to lose a loved one.
