Richmond County sheriff’s deputies spent more than an hour Friday searching for a suspect after a deputy was struck in the head and suffered a minor concussion.
Deputy Jason Cunningham was conducting a check at the Knights Inn, 210 Boy Scout Road, about 12:18 p.m. on a report of suspicious activity.
A news release stated Cunningham was talking to a unidentified man at the scene when the man suddenly jumped a fence and ran. Before the deputy could give chase, he said, he was struck in the back of the head by a second man. The deputy was taken to University Hospital for treatment, but has since been released and is recovering at home.
Police with search dogs looked for both suspects in the area of Boy Scout Road and Center West Parkway for more than an hour but were unsuccessful.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080 or 821-1020.
