A charter bus was burnt beyond repair after shrubbery in a Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway parking lot caught fire Friday.

Firefighters were called to the area about 11 a.m. where they found a Horizon Motor Coach bus on fire and heavy black smoke, according to Dee Griffin, the public information officer for the Augusta Fire Department.

Firefighters said it appears that heat from the exhaust ignited shrubbery in the parking lot where the bus was parked. The flames from the shrubbery ended up igniting the bus.

The driver, who was the only person on the bus, made it out safely.

The owner of Horizon Motor Coach told firefighters the bus is not repairable.

Okay so let me get this straight

1.The bus parked next to a tree
2. The bus lit the tree on fire
3. The tree lit the bus on fire

Simplify

Our new media could do society a great service if they would refuse to go along with politicians’ vanity:

. . . shrubbery in a Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway parking lot caught fire. . . .

Just call it Daniel Parkway. It is time to simplify, simplify, simplify.

Same idea on the Judge John H. Ruffin, Jr. Courthouse. Just call it Ruffin Courthouse. The criminal element themselves already call it Ruff House.

across from Panera?

Looking at the photos from the scene, is this across the Parkway from Panera? if so, 'Wow, What a Coincidence!'

Boy, I am so thankful that

Boy, I am so thankful that Dee Griffin was working today so she could publically inform us about what happened! I mean, if she wasn't there today, somebody else would've had to tell us....and that person wouldn't be qualified, so we really wouldn't know to believe it or not! Well, I take that back....I would've believed it if it came from the Fire Chief, or even one of the MANY fire fighters who were on hand to put the fire out! Are they more, or less qualified than the public information officer for the Augusta Fire Department?

Seriously?

You get upset that this info came from the public information officer for the Augusta Fire Department?

JMO, maybe you should have an early bedtime tonight, and have a couple of beers before you hit the hay. This ain't something to waste your time on.

for $15 to 20K in damages total out a $70K bus?

the bus would have to of been in its last leg to begin with.

The same company that sells these heavily USED buses with 600,000 miles for $70K + http://horizoncoachlines.com/bus-for-sale

BUT
It seems AUGUSTA has a 1st.
I just spent about 30 mins reading NTSB reports.
NOT 1 Exhaust to Brush to Bus fire??????

BTW:
8% of the highway vehicle fires were intentionally set.
In non-commercial vehicles about 1/2 of those usually happen in the passenger area.

In commercial vehicles they tend to be set in Engine compartment areas using deliberately shorted wires oo a few dabs of fuel on the exhaust pipe area.

BTW Update:
“We are no longer the knights who say ni! We are now the knights who say ekki-ekki-ekki-pitang-zoom-boing!”
