20-year-old in custody after shooting incident in Richmond County

A 20-year-old suspect is in custody following a shooting incident that injured one person Friday in Richmond County.

Approximately 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to 201 East Telfair Street in reference to an altercation, according to Sgt. Monica Belser.

Upon arrival, deputies chased suspect Antonio Holmes from East Telfair Street to East Walker Street, where the suspect was apprehended.

While being chased, Holmes dropped his sawed-off shotgun, but it was found and recovered by deputies.

“Holmes has a history of terrorizing victims in East Augusta,” Belser said.

The unidentified victim, who Belser said “was shot with bird-shot ammunition,” was treated at the scene and not hospitalized.

The investigation is ongoing.
