Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly linked an Athens area man to the drug arrests.  Sheriff Bruce Beggs said Monday that Jonathan Courtland Pursley, 24, of Danielsville, Ga., was not part of the drug arrests.

A drug bust in Lincoln County netted eight arrests, officials announced Sunday.

The suspects were arrested Friday after an investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Lincolnton Police Department and the Georgia Department of Corrections’ Probation Division, according to an e-mail from Sheriff Bruce Beggs.

Details of the charges weren’t available Sunday night, but they include possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and the possibility of cocaine and other drugs, the e-mail said. Some of the suspects also face probation violation charges.

Each of the following remain in the Lincoln County Jail awaiting bond hearings: Jeremy Bruce Evans, 35, of Elberton, Ga.; Robert Dee Freeman, 28, of Lincolnton; Wyatt Leanord Holsenback, 59, of Lincolnton; Crystal Weaghington, 34, of Tignall, Ga.; John Richard Wiggins, of Lincolnton; Kristine James, 31, of Lincolnton; Lila Nelson, 34, of Lincolnton; and Carolyn Maria Norman, 35, of Tignall, Ga.;

During the arrests, deputies were able to collect a “substantial amount” of meth, marijuana and unlicensed liquor, Beggs said. He said he anticipates more arrests in the coming days.

DRUGS
Unpublished

Drug dealers are the driving force behind most of the robberies and theft due to buying the poison they sell. This group should be charged with a violation of the RICO act and put in prison for life just like they did to the mob. It's nothing but organized crime and it should be dealt with the same way as the mafia.

Drug War?
Unpublished

We have not had a Drug War, not yet. A war is where you eliminate the enemy. We only tag, bag and release them. Put convicted drug dealers in jail for life. Eliminate the dealers, they sell poison for profit, and do not mind if anyone dies in the process. What do you prefer? A drug dealer on the street or someone you know dying in the street from dope.
