About 5:15 p.m., police were called to the 1900 block of Broad Street to help Chastity Anedra Joshua get into a locked vehicle with her infant inside.
Joshua said she left the baby in the vehicle alone for less than 10 minutes while she and another woman went into Family Dollar, according to an incident report. The mother said she did not want to disturb the sleeping child.
After returning to the vehicle, she said, she accidentally locked her keys in the car.
Surveillance video at the business shows Joshua leaving the baby at 5:14 p.m. and returning at 5:22 p.m. The child was removed from the vehicle after police opened the vehicle with a lockout kit at 5:40 p.m.
The woman and baby were taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center by ambulance for an evaluation. Soon after, Joshua was booked into the Richmond County jail on charges of deprivation of a minor.
