Richmond County firefighters were called to 3445 Wayside Drive about 8:30 a.m. The home’s occupants made it safely outside, where they were treated for smoke inhalation. But several pets were still inside. Firefighters rescued three puppies, two cats and three kittens.

Firefighters determined the fire started when someone placed a pile of clothes on top of lit cigarettes that had been left on a mattress.

Smoke damage was contained to one room of the house.

Cobalt, did you mean

Cobalt, did you mean "littered" cigarette - as in a pun?

A big rave for the fire department, pets are family, too.

I have two great friends who are retired firemen, and I had an uncle who was a fireman who was killed on the way to a fire because a distracted driver caused the fire truck to swerve and he was thrown off the back of the truck.

They have one of the top three most dangerous jobs and they deserve all the praise and respect they receive and more.
