A suspect in last week’s shooting in Beech Island was arrested Monday at the home of a family member, deputies say.
Alex James Pitts, 21, who was wanted for his role in a shooting in the 100 block of Cherry Lane on Thursday, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a statement from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested at a house on Hillman Street in Warrenville, S.C.
Last week’s shooting stemmed from an ongoing feud between Pitts and Ronald Mixon, 35, police said. Shortly after midnight Thursday, Pitts went to Mixon’s home on Cherry Lane and started an argument.
During the argument, Pitts brandished a handgun and pointed it at Mixon. Mixon struck Pitts with an aluminum bat, and Pitts retaliated by shooting Mixon in the groin, according to police.
Mixon was taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
