Second arrest made in Columbia County apartment shooting

Columbia County deputies made a second arrest Thursday in connection with a shooting that occurred early Monday morning at Westwood Club Apartments on Washington Road.

Makayla Gabrielle Ivey, 17, of Grovetown, is accused of giving false statements to investigators and is charged with felony false statements or writings and concealing facts, according to Capt. Steve Morris.

Ivey was booked at the Columbia County Detention Center and released on a $10,100 bond, Morris confirmed.

Ivey’s arrest comes two days after Trelon Baker, 20, was arrested in his Augusta apartment.

Baker, the accused shooter, is being charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, commission of a crime with a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of firearm during the commission of a crime.

Jamal Antwan Fielding, 25, said he was sitting on a bench behind the complex’s clubhouse Monday about midnight when two men and two women approached him demanding cash and jewelry, Morris said.

After Fielding refused, Baker is accused of shooting him in the thigh.

After the shooting, Fielding ran to his apartment, where his girlfriend called 911. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing.
