A morning traffic accident in Aiken County has resulted in a fatality.

Approximately 8:05 a.m., the Aiken Department of Public Safety responded to a collision on the 2200 block of Whiskey Road involving a 2009 Honda Accord and 2012 Dodge Ram truck. The Accord struck the Dodge Ram head-on, resulting in fatal injuries for the car’s front-seat passenger, said Aiken Department of Public Safety Detective Jeremy Hembree in a statement.

Sharon Harding, 70, was transported to an area hospital before being pronounced dead, according to a statement from the Aiken County coronors office.

Harding’s husband, Robert Harding, who was driving the Accord, remains in critical condition at Georgia Regents Medical Center. The truck’s driver, Natasha Rhinehart, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Aiken Regional Medical Center, Hembree said.

This is the third traffic fatality of 2014 in Aiken.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.

Saw the wreck this morning going to CVS. Truck almost ran over the car. Accident happened in the suicide lane. Probably someone was driving in lane looking at merging and not paying attention. Sad to hear someone died.
