Jamal Antwan Fielding, 25, said he was on a bench behind the clubhouse at Westwood Club Apartments on Washington Road about midnight when two men and two women approached him and demanded cash and jewelry, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

After he refused, one man shot Fielding in the thigh. The four people then ran away without stealing anything, Morris said.

Fielding described his assailants as a black man wearing a ball cap and a dark T-shirt with a cross, and a light-skinned black man wearing a black tank top with a larger gold chain with a cross and gold teeth.

The two black women appeared to be in their late teens. One was light-skinned wearing a light-colored T-shirt, and the other was dark-skinned and wearing a bun and tight shorts.

After the shooting, Fielding said, he ran to his apartment, where his girlfriend called 911, Morris said. His injuries are not life-threatening.

We'll never catch up!

Yes, a shooting. Try as we might, Columbia County will never catch up with Richmond County, even if we had five times the amount of people!
BTW the location was Westwood Apartments next to Academy Sports - just sayin'.

I hope the victim is ok, but my "not completely telling the whole story" detector is going off.

"Jamal recovers from that leg

"Jamal recovers from that leg shot"

Yeh, what's up with that. Anywhere else you go that has our similar demographics you need to wear a bullet proof vest. With our local clowns everyone seems to need bullet proof thigh protectors.

Irony

Where's Riverman, Butterman, Gnip Gnop, Seenit b4, Gage Creed, Colbat George, etc?

Let' see if the Chronicle decides to share this article on their facebook page..

Oldfella... The incident only made the news, because the crime involved two violent crimes(robbery & aggravated assault).

I agree -- I think there is

I agree -- I think there is more to this story. The thugs had better watch out. More people are carrying in Columbia County, and I've seen more than a couple carrying in Richmond County. Time to best find a new line of work. OR, only try to rob people you know.

Westwood Club apartments, one

Westwood Club apartments, one of those mixed income communities Countyman is always bragging about. Affordable housing, i.e. Section 8.

HMMMM....

I am still waiting to hear about the high speed chase which ended up in the Mullins Crossing shopping center a few weeks back. Businesses without power after it ended with a crash and not a word? Anyone else with details?

Section 8 Housing & the gun-toting thugs that come with it

I wish that they would stay on the other side of that I-20 wall that GA DOT built a few years ago. Can we get gates added?

SeenIt, I don't know about

SeenIt, I don't know about that. When Section 8 folks come to Columbia County they seem to improve and emulate the other residents. (Ha, that should get C-man going)

Westwood was destined to be trouble from the start.

It ruined Bel Air Elementary with it's entry to that nice little community school. And yes, I have first hand knowledge of that fact from some insiders. They predicted it and it happened.

Section 8.

Summary of this entire story: Section 8.
Cause of the problem: Section 8.
Not typical of Columbia County? Section 8.
The All-Knowing, Enlightened and Benevolent Federal Government has decreed that neighborhoods must welcome, at gunpoint and after bitter litigation if necessary, Section 8 housing.
Any other questions?
Section 8.

Factss

All of these naysayers (nortonguy and all of his clones) always bringing CC down... they only come on here when someone gets shot... btw did I tell you what the median income of the neighborhood surrounding the incident was? How about that the CC population grew at more than 10 times the rate of RC from 2010 to 2013

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/13/13245.html

I hear CC is pressing for a Sprint Foods Metro Market near the Lady A... but thats a 4 year undertaking...

(Is that how countyman do it?) [sarcasm font on standby]

Interesting That When Columbia County....

....has a shooting, it's the fault of the federal government.

When Richmond County has a shooting, it's the fault of Richmond County.

Makes perfect sense, I suppose, at least to the Columbia County folks.

Was eating at the huddle house in Jackson Ga today

We as a joke started counting sagging pants wearers.
We quit counting after finishing our meal.

Total Count------ ZERO.

WHY?

Butts Co. and Henry Co. both cite for sagging.

"Butts Co. and Henry Co. both cite for sagging."

Must be some kind of poetic justice that "Butts" County has a law against wearing your britches too low.

Just curious, what's the charge? Indecent exposure? Anybody ever been convicted by a jury?

What's that someone

What's that someone condescendingly said before these apartments were built? "Oh, the Home Owners Association will keep anything like that from happening, or something along those lines. Yeah, right. We have Neighborhood Associations and Watches, too. They are really good for putting up entry signs to the subdivisions, keeping out satellite dishes and asking for help to keep entrances beautified, but the Watches weren't very effective. At least one household was robbed while the owner was at a neighborhood association meeting, for example. Lotsa luck.
