About 9 a.m., deputies stopped a 2008 Toyota Camry with dark tinted windows in the 1500 block of Holley Street. Deputies smelled marijuana while talking to the driver, Nicole Denise Slappy, 23, of Brockdale Drive, the report said. A plastic bag with marijuana was found underneath a black blouse on a rear floorboard, the report said.

Slappy was booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, window tint violation and two counts of unrestrained children.

Her children, who were seated in the rear of the vehicle, were handed over to their grandmother.

Pot

I guess we need to legalize it so that mothers such as Ms. Slappy will not be embarrassed in front of their kids.

You would think police would insist on searching the grandmother's house and car for drugs before handing the grandchildren over to her.

those dark tinted windows

those dark tinted windows seem to be an open invitation for a police stop. Not smart if you are doing something criminal.

No, LL, there's no probable

No, LL, there's no probable cause to think that the grandmother has drugs on her property. That would be an unlawful search.

It's too bad those poor children have to grow up with a drug dealer for a mother, and that the grandmother is going to have to raise those children while the mother is in prison.

447 Grams equal

15.75 OZ or just shy 1/4 of a OZ of a POUND of weed.

I am surprised they wrote her up on Windshield wipers but did not also book her for Felony Child Endangerment.

This was no baby daddy accidentally left a nickel bag on the seat.
This was dealer weight and with children in the vehicle would make this an additional serious charge.

The fact the kids Grandmother and not the father picked them up, speaks for itself.

Yep thats why

The Grandmother in so many of these dope arrest cases downtown seems to be the ones picking up the kids.

Given even "Reverend Al & Jesse" acknowledged Statistics 7+ out of 10 Black Americans are born out of wedlock ... no daddy around.

Among non-Hispanic blacks, the figure is highest, at 72.2 percent; for American Indians/Alaska Natives, it’s 66.9 percent; 53.5 percent for Hispanics; 29.4 percent for non-Hispanic whites; and a mere 17.1 percent for Asians/Pacific Islanders.

Legalize it and stop terrorizing people for marijuana.

The most dangerous thing about the plant is that it's illegal.

OJP, no, it's not harmless.

OJP, no, it's not harmless.

Aspirin isn't harmless, either. No drug is.

If it was harmless, it wouldn't affect people in any way and nobody would want to use it.

Corgi....why isn't it ok for some people to make assumptions, yet YOU assumed that the woman was "too high" and that she is as drug dealer. You don't know if EITHER of these are true, yet you question everyone else when they make assumptions. Is this just one of the infinite things that you are all knowing about?

Well, if she was a liquor distributor she'd be a small business owner, a cornerstone of our economy. Alcohol is empirically more harmful than pot -- to prohibit one and not the other is absurd, and spending the money to arrest and incarcerate for pot is a complete waste of resources. And by "resources", I mean YOUR TAXES.

Thank you for stopping a driver of a vehicle with window tint that is darker than the legal limit. I consider persons that drive these cars that have windows tinted over the legal limit as being suspicious. I also consider not being able to see the driver's face as a driving hazard. Sometimes the only clue you have to what a driver is going to do (or not do) next is watching their head turning, especially if they have a cell phone stuck to their hand/head and/or don't use their turn signals. There is a plague of drivers around here that don't want to telegraph their next move and THAT is suspicious, too.

C-mom on Mugshots

As you may or may not know the GA legislators recently passed a law requiring all sheriff’s offices in Georgia to stop posting mugshots by July 1, 2014. Unless an agreement was sign NOT to charge for the picture or its removal.

Which I agree with in part.

There were too many sites cashing in on the pictures and charging a fee to remove them.... aka Blackmail.

However there is always cross referencing using FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, GOOGLE and others...☺

Note for racist jokes and future public interaction:

Even when you think something is funny, you are still painting a big, fat "I'm a racist" sign on your forehead.

You're free to do so -- I just thought I'd point it out in case you thought calling it "humor" somehow made the racism disappear.

Yep I am a Racist

I was raised by a Black man name Thomas Mack and this sister Ruth who lived just off Walker St between 3 & 4 St, most of my youth.

I married outside on my race (I am Eur-Asian) and my wife of 38 years is Puerto Rican Taíno Indian kinda dark skinned if that is how you judge racism.

Maybe if I was Chris Rock the humorist response would have been acceptable. So until then, I guess I'll have to live with the Double Standard.

Nocnoc, if you don't want to

Nocnoc, if you don't want to be thought of as racist, or perpetuate racism, then avoid making jokes based on racism. Chris Rock, when he makes jokes based on racism, is being racist, and is perpetuating racism. Just because some folks have a Double Standard doesn't change that, or make it "acceptable" to all.

Race is a fiction (there is no genetic basis for it) but it's still treated as real, and probably will be for as long as folks see differences in "racial" characteristics -- traditionally based on skin tone, eye shape, and hair texture. Genetic testing shows that two people called the same "race" are as likely to be as genetically related as two people of entirely different "races"; race is an illusion.

Making racist jokes doesn't instantly make somebody a bad person, but it perpetuates a myth that has, historically, caused a huge amount of suffering. Why reinforce and perpetuate that myth? Every one of us has the opportunity to fight that history, and choosing not to advance racist ideas, even with something as simple as racist jokes, is a power available to us all.

I agree with the illegal

window tint violation...now when will deputies start writing each other tickets for the same violation, I see lots of patrol cars with tint so dark you can't even see inside the car at all. If it's illegal because of the hazard of not being able to see out then it's a hazard for everyone!!
