An Augusta teen was charged Monday with threatening a talk radio show host.

The 16-year-old was charged with making terroristic threats against WGAC host Austin Rhodes, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

Rhodes called authorities about 11 p.m. Sunday and said someone had threatened him through Facebook. Rhodes said that he recently had discussed a drive-by shooting in Augusta on his show and that it had sparked a conversation on his professional Facebook page, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The poster, later identified as the teen, wrote: “The Austin Rhodes show gone be dead on my life,” according to the report. The teen also mentioned Rhodes’ wife and threatened to go get him, according to the report.

Rhodes saved the comments before the teen deleted them. He provided deputies copies of the comments.

The teen was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center on Monday and transferred to the Regional Youth Detention Center, according to Morris.

I saw the comments, I guess

I saw the comments, I guess he isn't quite so brave today.

But the comments were deeply disturbing, we're going to see more of that 16 year old and we won't have to wait too long, either. And it won't be in a good way.

Proper English

So glad that the troubled youth at least excels with the written word. Most likely a product of the RCBOE.

Subscribers who are logged into the web site through Press+ shouldn't see the survey all. Bear in mind, your profile/commenting log in is entirely separate from your subscription log in.

If you are seeing it, you probably aren't logged in through Press+. If you haven't activated your account yet so you can log in, go here to activate: http://chronicle.augusta.com/subscribe/activate. If you have any problems call or email me and I will help you do it. sean.moores@augustachronicle.com 706-823-3448

If you have activated your account and already have a Press+ password, here are instructions to log in:

Go to http://chronicle.augusta.com/subscribe, click "SUBSCRIBE" in the "Digital only" column.

When the Press+ window pops up, click the "SIGN IN" tab in the top right corner and log in with email address and Press+ password.

That should set a persistent cookie from Press+ and keep you from getting the surveys.

Let me know if this doesn't work.

One thing I can never find, Sean,

is exactly how much it costs to have the most basic of online subscription access after the 99 cent rate time period is over and the full price comes into effect. Can you offer any help on that?

As far as Austin Rhodes is

As far as Austin Rhodes is concerned, I do appreciate the newsworthy items he shares on his show, but I just don't appreciate his personality and the way he presents himself. Now, that being said, in NO WAY does this man deserve to have his life threatened, nor the vile thing he threatened to do to Mrs. Rhodes! I'm glad that this piece of trash is behind bars.

Now, as far as the newspaper, I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. It was only temporarily fixed though. For some reason, my computer won't retain any type of cookie that the paper leaves behind. Got tired of taking the 20 steps in takes to sign back in (really..can't the paper come up with a better and faster sign in procedure???). So, now, when it comes up, I just click on the last answer to the survey! Sean, please tell me that this is NOT going to send an avalanche of ads to my email or paper-site!!!
Seriously, Sean, tell me if that's what's going to happen! Tell us all.

No, it shouldn't send you any spam or ads. Did you follow the steps above? If you are set up to allow cookies from our site (you can do this just for us if you don't want to accept cookies in general) and you logged in through Press+, you shouldn't see the survey. If you haven't done this, you should be seeing our pop up asking you to subscribe. Call me tomorrow and I will try to talk you through it.

AF joe, I saw the comments.

AF joe, I saw the comments. No, he doesn't know proper English, nor did he have any upbringing, nor does he excel at anything.

The comment that the AC printed was the tame one, the one fit for a family newspaper.

"It reverts back to the regular $9.99 per month cost."

Where else can you have so much fun, learn so much, and watch total strangers get mad at other total strangers over hilarious stuff, like what is the best cable news tv show, and whether or not they like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, for only $9.99 per month?

I can has subtitles pleeze?

The poster, later identified as the teen, wrote: “The Austin Rhodes show gone be dead on my life,” according to the report.

Huh? Where did this kid learn how to spell/speak - the LOL Cats site?
I can't fathom what he's trying to say here.

But even more disturbing - Austin is married to a man? "mentioned Rhodes wife and threatened to go get him?" Shouldn't it have said "mentioned Rhodes wife and threatened to go get her"? Or maybe "mentioned Rhodes wife and threatened to go get Austin?" This is poorly phrased IMO.

The teen also mentioned Rhodes’ wife and threatened to go get him, according to the report.

off track

It never ceases to amaze me how the comment sections on here are so off-track. What could have been an intelligent discussion about the article and such things as youth crime, the challenges of Facebook, and safety in Augusta, ended up being a conversation about accessing the AC's website on line and the cost and grammatical errors made by the teen threatening Austin Rhodes as well as the writer of the article. What a shame.

Follow the steps in my 3:21pm comment and send me an email if it doesn't work. I've talked to our web master several times about this and they think that people who are seeing it aren't actually signed in.

Comments can go briefly off topic (just like a normal conversation), but I usually don't let them go this much off topic. I am allowing the conversation about the survey and logging on because I want our subscribers to be able to access our digital products. The survey appears to be bothering a lot of them, so I am addressing it wherever it comes up. I tried to direct it to R&Rs at first, but I changed my mind when I saw how many people were complaining.

the survey.....

just get rid of the damn thing.....people cramming down their lunch, grabbing a quick snack at their desk , or who are are actually at work, trying to catch up on a bit of news between phone calls are not interested in surveys, car ads, or anything else we have to wade through to get to a simple news item. I am a subscriber , btw and I still see the survey.....

It's no different than most

It's no different than most entertainment venues; they've found a way to make more money and they're exploiting it. Take most television shows today; you're lucky if you get a 50/50 split of actual show verus commercials today!! I used to like to watch hunting, fishing and cooking shows; but have basically completely quit, because you MIGHT see one actual hunt, and the rest will be commercials for outdoors equipment. Cooking shows you're lucky to see them fix two sides of a meal, then the rest is commercials!! You've got to tune into the next show, for them to show the entree!!

No he doesn't deserve to have his life threatened. What would make you think that whatever a person SAYS should endanger their life? What make your small mind think his wife should be threatened as well? To say the kind of things you said shows just what a sick twisted mind you have as well as the kid arrested.

Gee.......GNicole

You don't agree with Austin Rhodes so he's a racist? Funny I don't remember him ever threatening anybody or their family not of his own ethnic background, or even of his own ethnic background. Apparently his "shenanigans" aren't so bad as to run him afoul of the law. He's been on the air for many years - better call the Justice Department to track him down. Stop him, before he offends again! It's a free country last time I checked. Change the channel - or mentor kids on how to law works so they won't threaten people. You might want to look up the definition of "racist" too before you throw down that card - it's played out.

Absolutely

I would take any threat seriously. This little punk should DEFINITELY be in jail, he clearly expressed his intent. I haven't seen the other comments but just what is mentioned is enough evidence for me.
