A North Augusta woman has been accused of child neglect after police say she left her daughter alone at a park while she went to work.
Debra Lynn Harrell, 46, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child for leaving her 9-year-old daughter unattended, according to a North Augusta Department of Public Safety incident report
Cynthia Ancrum, 44, said she met with a friend and noticed a young girl playing at Summerfield Park about 9:30 a.m. with no adult in sight, according to the report.
Ancrum left and later returned to the park to find the young girl still there. When she asked the girl where her parents were, the girl said her mother drops her off all the time to play at the park while she works.
When asked how she eats each day, the child said the “Feed a Child” people come or she walks to the McDonald’s inside the North Augusta Wal-Mart.
Officers took the child to the department’s headquarters and located her mother. The South Carolina Department of Social Services took custody of the child.
