The death of a man whose body was found burned in the backyard of a North Augusta home last week has been ruled a suicide, officials said Monday.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Charles D. McCarthy III was positively identified after the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office compared fingerprints.

McCarthy was found dead Friday by his mother in the backyard of his home in the 800 block of Shawnee Drive.

I can't imagine the mental torment needed to drive someone to this. I hope his soul found peace.
