Burned body found in North Augusta backyard

A man’s burned body was found in the backyard of a North Augusta home Friday morning.

The body, found at a home in the 800 block of Shawnee Drive, was partially decomposed and too severely burned to be identified, North Augusta Public Safety Sgt. Maurice Ransom said.

The body was sent to Newberry, S.C., for an autopsy. The time of death is unknown, Ransom said.

“We’re going to wait for the autopsy results before we confirm anything,” he said.

No arrests have been made.
