Police say an Augusta man was robbed at gunpoint after he started winning a card game early Saturday.

Deputies were called to Red Carpet Inn at 2050 Gordon Highway about 4 a.m. Ricky Cooper, 46, said he was robbed of $600 while playing cards with two men, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.

While playing the game, one of the men retrieved a gun from under a pillow and walked outside. He was followed by the other man, who goes by Thomas, who re-entered and said the first man was having girl problems, the report said.

Thomas left the room one more time and came back with his hand in his pocket, then pulled a black revolver and demanded money while accusing Cooper of cheating, the report said.

Thomas grabbed the money from the table and from Cooper’s pockets. He was last seen driving a silver car with Georgia tag PMD 6565, according to the report.

He is described as a black male about 6 feet tall and about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and brown shorts.

I'm not feeling too sorry for a guy engaging in illegal gambling at a motel. He should have picked his card playing friends better.

1) You're not too bright if

1) You're not too bright if you go to a motel room with money with people you don't know.

2) You're not too bright if, after your money gets stolen (what did he THINK was going to happen?) you call the police.

3) You're not too bright if you give the police a description of the person and the tag number, that is then published in the paper along with your name and age, because snitches dig ditches, and he now has a lot more to worry about than $600. Which he isn't ever going to get back, and which the person that did it is never going to be prosecuted, because there's no proof that it happened. The two men were in on it together, and they aren't going to turn on each other. It'll be 2 against one.
