A Hephzibah man has been arrested in connection to multiple threatening text messages and e-mails to Augusta attorney John Long and his sister.

Tyler Barnes was booked into the Richmond County jail on two counts of terroristic acts and threats.
Tyler Barnes was booked into the Richmond County jail on two counts of terroristic acts and threats.

An incident report states Long took 34-year-old Tyler Barnes’ divorce case but later dropped him as his client because of “major misunderstandings.” Long’s sister Sallie had first suggested her brother to Barnes, who had taken a college class with her.

After dropping the case, Long and his sister began receiving threatening e-mails and text messages from the suspect, according to the report. While filing the police report on Saturday, the attorney said he had received 14 e-mails in the last 24 hours. His sister had received 26 text messages within 15 minutes. In all of the texts, police said Barnes made threats toward John Long and in one text stated he could kill him.

Barnes was booked into the Richmond County jail Monday on two counts of terroristic acts and threats.

This is why I love to read the news...

Everyday crazy things get posted. It's hard to believe some of the things people do.

Idiot

Text messages get you in trouble every time. Hard to say you didn't do something or threaten someone when its right there in B&W.

Nut Job. Now the question becomes clearer as to why Mrs. Barnes wanted out.

love this forum...

...where you can call folks names like Nut Job and speculate as to what really happened. I'm not denying that the press may not be correct with regards to sending the types of messages nor do I condone the action at all and proper actions should be and were taken. However, folks, not everything goes into print for various reasons. Did you see where it said "major misunderstandings"? Can you not wait to see the rest of the story or would that take the fun out of things? It very likely may turn up that the situation is worse than it is, as bad as it appears in the article, at which time speculation will likely ensue but hopefully without the attempts at clever fun-poking. And we wonder why the mental health branch of medicine makes little headway.

ignorant enough to threaten to kill someone, go all the way. There's a person in Washington, D.C. who needs it.

We won't get more info on this, most likely

This is not a big or important story. Anybody that would make threats that are easily documented is a fool. Email never goes away and what you say in a fit of passion can get you in a lot of trouble, and it always does if you threaten someone.

With email, it's never "he said-she said" or "s/he said-s/he said". You get the whole things laid out for all (with access) to see unless you use an email burn software program. People who make threats don't usually have the wit to wait and use that kind of thing.

Um, my advice?

Don't do that.
NEVER mess with lawyers, judges, police officers, or members of motorcycle gangs.

Any one wondering why this nice guy is getting a divorce?

NOW to another point .....received 26 text messages within 15 minutes.

This guy must have the fastest Thumbs on the South South, plus a cell provider that sends text msg's quicker than mine?

If he had only worked for the IRS, he could have deleted them and not been caught!

Attorneys are in business to

Attorneys are in business to earn money, they are used to dealing with difficult clients.

When an attorney drops a client, you can be assured that there were "major misunderstandings", alright.

This guy definitely looks the part of a troubled man. Sounds like he needs some physiatrist to take a look before he acts on his threats.

Just because it is here in

Just because it is here in black and white doesn't mean it is true. Don't believe everything that you read. Might be all true, partly true, or all false. Only One that knows for certain is God.

Fiat - could you please pass that info on to the IRS...??

They seem to be having a little trouble understanding that concept over there.

Yep, you're sure right. I forgot, but then he's just another member of the great unwashed like the rest of us non-elite political hacks.
