Parts of Bobby Jones Expressway were shut down Thursday evening following a traffic accident in Richmond County.

Approximately 8:50 p.m., deputies responded to an accident with injuries at Bobby Jones Expressway between Wrightsboro Road and Gordon Highway. The crash closed eastbound lanes of traffic except the left lane, according to a statement from Sgt. Glen Rahn.

The accident was caused when a Jeep Wrangler rear-ended a PT Cruiser at a high rate of speed, causing the PT Cruiser to strike the rear of a Jeep Commander, Rahn stated.

The Commander received moderate damage while its two occupants were unharmed.

The PT Cruiser and Wrangler were each extensively damaged. Both occupants of the vehicles were transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

As of 10:15 p.m., all lanes of Bobby Jones eastbound were reopened.

More traffic surveillance needed?

Bobby Jones may need a little more pro-active monitoring by the traffic division...yes?
