Approximately 7:15 p.m., deputies responded to Community Grocery store, located at 930 Thirteenth Street, in reference to an armed robbery.

According to Sgt. Glen Rahn, an unknown black male entered the store armed with a shotgun and demanded money from the clerk.

The suspect fired a shot at a drink cooler, at which time the clerk ran into the back room, Rahn said.

After the shot was fired, the suspect went around the counter and attempted to open the cash register.

Once the suspect could not open the register, he fled the business on foot, Rahn said.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-10, light skinned, slim to medium build with a t-shirt covering his face.

No one was injured during the incident.

It's too bad that the store didn't have an armed guard to put this thug down. I'm glad the clerk didn't get hurt. Crook was too dumb to open the cash register and got nothing for his efforts. Priceless.
