Michael Antonio Trim, 23, is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The second suspect has not been identified, said Assistant District Attorney John Markwalter.
Markwalter said Trim and a second gunman forced the Burger King night manager to open the store’s safe and then ordered the manager and other employees into a walk-in freezer, stating “come out and we will shoot you.”
The two robbers fled on a moped with $1,700, Markwalter said.
As they were leaving the area, Coroner Mark Bowen happened to be driving by and noticed that the men matched a description being radioed over the police scanner in his car.
Markwalter said Bowen pursued the robbers before they got away on foot.
During an investigation, police found Trim’s fingerprint in the walk-in freezer and on a .45-caliber handgun found afterward.
On searching the home of Trim’s girlfriend, police found a Michael Myers Halloween mask, which Burger King employees said was worn by the robber.
Superior Court Judge William Fleming Jr. denied bond, stating that Trim was a threat to the community and a flight risk.
