Church theft suspect charged

Almy

Police have arrested a man believed to have stolen money from St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church’s donation boxes.

Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Calvin Chew said Friday that Timothy Patrick Almy, 48, of Gordon Highway, has been charged with theft by taking in connection with the incident.

Police released a photo Thursday seeking information on the then-unidentified suspect.

According to an incident report, deputies were called last month to the church at 1420 Monte Sano Ave., after money was discovered missing from collection boxes labeled “Poor Box” and “Catholic Social Service” in the lobby.

Surveillance video captured images of a man kicking the boxes, which are mounted on columns, to get the money.
