Police were called to the 2100 block of Second Avenue around 12:30 a.m. for gunshots and one person possible wounded. At the scene, police discovered Carter lying face down with two gunshot wounds to the chest, a Richmond County sheriff’s new release said.

Carter, of the 1400 block of Sycamore Drive, was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m.

Coroner Mark Bowen said the body will be transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.

Police have not released any further details on the incident.

This is the 10th homicide in Richmond County this year.

Story is still developing, but

Right now given the area, the typical crime for the area and etc...
We likely have a BOB shooting at close range. Which means the 2+ involved were 15-20 feet apart at best.

Because, IF it wasn't at close range, we would likely be looking at bullet wounds spread out over the body.

The shooter knows to double tap, and that statement carries a lot of deeper meanings.

UPDATE:
The Victim (Player) has multiple felonies in his criminal history.

"deputies responded to the

"deputies responded to the 2100 block of Second Avenue in regards to gunshots being fired"

Hmmm, imagine that. Deputies that actually respond to gunshots. Do you have to pay extra to get that service or is that a "policy" thing. They sure didn't respond out here on the south end when shotgun pellets were hitting my house and car. Maybe I didn't "say the secret word" to the dispatcher or something.....or had the wrong dialect.

Dichotomy...

You continue to repeat the deputies do not respond to your calls. That is either a complete fabrication or something is certainly a miss. Deputies do in fact respond to all calls that the 911 centers dispatches. If in fact you have a call as you describe where no one responded, PLEASE contact the Sheriff's Office Operations Division or Internal Affairs so that the matter may be looked into because that is not the level of service provided by the RCSO.

To simply keep repating online that the Sheriff's Office does not respond to calls for service is ridiculous.

March 14, 2010 AUGUSTA, Ga.

March 14, 2010

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- An 18-year-old has been arrested one day after a man was shot to death on Luckey Street, investigators said Sunday.

Curtis Lamont Carter was arrested around 6 p.m. in the Meadowbrook area near Deans Bridge Road, investigators said. He had been wanted for murder, along with possession of a firearm during a crime.

Scotty Mathis, 40, of Vandivere Road was shot several times Saturday afternoon, Mark Bowen with the Richmond County Coroner's Office said in an e-mail. He was pronounced dead at MCG at 3:25 p.m.. His body has been sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.

Investigators named Carter a suspect shortly after the shooting and considered him armed and dangerous.

News 12 has learned Carter was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in 2008. Carter pleaded down to simple assault and discharging a firearm.

noc noc, the only deep meaning to this is that one criminal shot another criminal. Because that's what they do.

What goes around, comes around.

Those gangbanger knuckleheads are too stupid to come up with a deep meaning for ANYTHING.

Curtis had also been

Curtis had also been convicted in 2006, at age 15, of a felony poss of marijuana and a felony poss of cocaine, he got a 60 day short term sentence, 6 mo probation, and ordered to an alcohol and drug class.

So Curtis has been a convicted felon for 7 years, and it finally caught up to him.

Have yet to understand

Have yet to understand why young people today shoot each other, when they have disagreements. It use to be young people just had fist fights. It can't be the availability of weapons, because weapons have been available for decades. Seems there should be a better way to settle things. Its sad to pick up a newspaper, or turn on the TV in any area of the country, and see things like this happen.

@bdouglas

Just think how close this event was to the most exclusive lodging in the entire CSRA MSA, the income and property values in the CBD are only exceeded by those in Summerville, West Augusta, and those other places that are always listed.

1. New Hotel )old hotel remodeled(
2. New Resturant
3. New Pub
4. Title Pawn
5. Liquor Store
6. Discount Cigarette Outlet
7. Business Incubator
8. I think you get the idea

Csraguy .... Dichotomy's

Csraguy .... Dichotomy's experience isn't a isolated occurrence . I can personally attest to no shows . Once downtown I was on the phone with 911 for a very long time reporting a vehicle break-in while following the people reporting their location till it got too dangerous . Gave up and hung up , they never even called back to find out why I hung up

CM - Double Tapping (putting 2 rounds side by side)

Addressing the comment on the comment.

Double tapping usually means the guy is trained or has done this before to assure a kill. (See updated comment with URl's above) Like you dug up in 2010 at 18 y/o he was wanted for murder.

Planting 2 in the chest, if fired in rapid sequence,
it takes repetitive training skills. This is due to muzzle recoil
and raise after each shot.

Usually a quick shoot results in a side to side-upward wound pattern 12 to 20" apart. To get 2 in the chest (note the article says CHEST, not abdomen or torso) means the shooter capped the guy in a 6x8 area. The shooter had some skills.

BTW:
Now we have a possible "Cousin" Payback Killing.

Nay, nay. It's inside the Savannah, Gordon Highway AND 13th Street. You said yourself that this Canalside deal could be considered in the CBD since it NEARLY fell within 3 of the 4 borders... It makes perfect sense by your logic.

In the CBD

Clearly within the borders... just like Canalside is in the CBD. bdouglas is spot on with his analysis.

To paraphrase Meatloaf... 3 outta 4 ain't bad...
