Two Aiken residents say they were dumbfounded when a suspicious package containing 10 pounds of marijuana showed up at their door Thursday, police say.

The residents at the home in the 700 block of Brucewood Street said the U.S. Postal Service delivered the package, addressed to Mary Lu Smith, about 4 p.m. Thursday. A label showed it was shipped from a Phoenix address. The residents told police they did not know anyone by either of the names on the package.

One resident opened the package and found a cylindrical container wrapped in black plastic and dryer sheets. She called police, who took the package to Aiken Public Safety headquarters, where they found the marijuana.

Police say the names on the package were likely fake and that the box had been delivered to the wrong address for an interstate drug deal.

That has been happening with

That has been happening with regularity in the drug trade. Ship a package to a home ,mostly working folk who aren't home then someone picks the package off the stoop, if it gets tracked the DEA or local law enforcement doesn't know who it meant for.

Should've just gone ahead and

Should've just gone ahead and smoked it over time. Just think of the pain and disease that would've been eradicated. Now they're going to have to buy expensive drugs for their problems.

Don't get mad at me for saying that! I'm just falling in line with the current thinking on mary jane.

Good scam

Since all of these services leave packages without signature unless requested.

Good thing they turned it in.

Good thing they turned it in. Otherwise the criminals who shipped it would have made them pay. As others have pointed out, it's increasingly common practice for dealers to ship to a house and then snatch the stuff from the front porch. Since they turned it in to authorities the dealers will chalk it up as a business loss.

Why would they open a package
Unpublished

Why would they open a package not addressed to them? They should have given it back to the mail carrier and told them there was no such person living there. They committed a crime themselves by opening it.

Saw It In A Movie

Hey, I saw a movie like that once where the dope got shipped to the wrong address. I'd be careful in case they come looking for their MJ.

Comedian Mitch Hedberg once said, "I love my FedEx guy, 'cause he's a drug dealer and he doesn't even know it...and he's always on time!"
