A baseball bat beating that left the victim battered, bruised and suffering from a broken elbow resulted in a prison sentence for one of his attackers Wednesday.

Branden C. Knox, 26, his sister Brandi C. Stewart, 22, and stepfather David C. Porter, 49, each pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court for their role in the Dec. 14 attack on Silas Lovett.

Lovett, 20, was chasing after two children on behalf of a mother of a disabled child who suspected they had bullied or teased her child, said Assistant District Attorney Shawn Merzlak. Knox and his family members thought Lovett was the aggressor, however, their defense attorneys said.

Judge Michael N. Annis sentenced Knox, who wielded the bat during the assault, to four years in prison followed by six years on probation. He sentenced Stewart to six years on probation under the First Offender Act, and Annis sentenced Porter, who took the bat away from his stepson, to six years on probation.
