About 2 a.m. Thursday, an officer staking out Midway Self Storage, 1735 Barton Chapel Road, caught Robert Leon Parks, 19, and Darius Jerome Wright, 23, breaking into a storage unit. Fourteen units already had been broken into at the facility, according to a news release.
Police had been plagued with burglaries at storage-unit facilities across the county for the past several months. In each case, the burglars would enter a fenced area and break into the units, making off with televisions, guns, bicycles and other valuables.
Parks and Wright have been linked to incidents at three other facilities – A Tech Storage on Augusta Tech Drive, Iron Guard Self Storage on Wylds Road and American Self Storage on Wrightsboro Road. A total of 139 units were burglarized since March 3.
Police said the two men are being held at the Richmond County jail without bond on four counts each of burglary, but the suspects will be charged with 139 counts in all. Each storage unit constitutes a charge, according to the release.
The investigation is continuing, and more arrests are expected.
