Investigators said Tuesday they suspect arson as cause of a house fire on Gibson Street.

Lt. Neal Brown, of the Augusta Fire Department, told Richmond County sheriff’s deputies he observed several points of origin in the structure at 3331 Gibson Road, according to an incident report. Brown said he collected samples to be analyzed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

A witness at the scene told Brown a gray Ford Crown Victoria driven by a large black male was being followed by a white sedan occupied by two black males traveling east on Gibson Road toward the home.

Around 20 minutes later, the witness saw the vehicles head in the opposite direction while the house was on fire.
