Two Augusta men are accused of robbing a Thomson man at gunpoint early Thursday at a gas station.
Donald Joseph Peck, 23, of Old McDuffie Road, and John Thomas Braun, 20, of Twin Pines Drive, are charged with armed robbery, according to Richmond County jail records. Peck is also charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police were called about 3:47 a.m., according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report. The victim, Mario Brown, 24, managed to follow the suspects in his car until police stopped the white Chevrolet pickup.
Brown said he was parked outside the Sprint Foods Store at 2202 Gordon Highway when Peck leaned into his window, brandished a handgun and demanded all of his money. He said Peck grabbed his wallet and fired several shots in his direction, missing every time.
Brown said he fired once with his .380-caliber handgun to scare the two off.
After police stopped Peck and Braun, they found Brown’s wallet in the back seat of the pickup, the report said. Braun told police that Peck tossed his gun out of the window just before they were located.
