Firefighters don’t know yet what started a blaze Saturday night in a vacant house in the 1800 block of Ellis Street.

Fire crews responded about 7:30, according to Chris Reid, a battalion chief for the Richmond County Fire Department. It took 20 to 25 minutes to contain it, and there were no injuries.

“Right now, we have no idea what started the fire,” Reid said. “With the house being vacant, it’s tough to know right away.”

Two neighboring houses also were damaged.

“It melted the vinyl siding off one of the houses, but the damage looks worse than it actually is,” Reid said.

Local resident Gene Ballard said this is the second time the house has seen flames.

“About a month ago the same house caught fire,” Ballard said. “The first fire happened around 3 a.m., so I’m just happy this one didn’t wake me up.”

Drug involvment

Check out the wheels on the car in the driveway. Maybe this was a storage area for who knows what. Not electrical, not lightning strike, not trying to keep warm. Some homeless person maybe trying to sleep of a Annie Green Springs, or Boone's Farm, or MD20-20 hangover. Dropped his match after lighting his Kool Cigarette.

Exact address??
Unpublished

I google mapped it and see it is indeed in Harrisburg. Can we get an exact address for this property? I am curious if it is the same owner of another house that burned in Harrisburg several weeks back where a man died.

Houses Going Up In Flames

The old house I used to live in on Telfair St. in the Harrisburg section also burned and was destroyed in a fire this past Friday afternoon. The house was sold after I moved out 5 years ago. Wondering if there is some kind of connection with all these house burnings in that area.
