Stolen Masters badges discovered

An Augusta man traded a Masters Tournament practice round ticket and $3,600 for two badges that were later found to be stolen, police say.

George Classen, 27, told police that he traded the money and a ticket to Wednesday’s practice round at the Circle K gas station at 2856 Washington Road from a seller named Mike, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Classen then sold the tickets for $6,000 on Thursday to David Henry, 33, of Asheboro, N.C., who gave the badges to two friends. When Henry’s friends attempted to use the badges, they were taken at the gate because they had been reported stolen.

Classen returned the ticket money to Henry, but Classen is still without his $3,600, according to the report.

On Friday, a Los Angeles man who paid $2,000 for a ticket to the Masters Tournament was stopped at a gate and escorted from the course when it turned out he’d bought a badge that had been reported lost.
