North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers were called to Apartment 1701 at the Marion Avenue complex about 10:30 a.m. and found Dakota Cook, 21, with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, Coroner Tim Carlton said in a news release.

Police charged his wife of four years, 20-year-old Terry Cook, with murder. The shooting appeared to be the result of an ongoing domestic dispute, according to the news release.

The couple’s children, ages 4 months, 1, 3 and 4, were at home at the time of the shooting but were not injured, Lt. Tim Thornton said. They are in the custody of their grandparents.

A call for Citizen Marshall Law

I am normally a passive individual, but there has come a time for us to join the only active organizations I hear about in Augusta, the churches, and help them crack down on this non-sense of murder.
I would like to have important resolutions to this situation. If there are others who would like to at least discuss the situation lets form a Blog.
I can be reached at fbraxto@outlook.com/

What if it was self-defense?

I need more information to have an opinion beyond this being a tragedy. But look how young the were when they got married and started having children. They were still children themselves. Three toddlers and a pre-schooler makes for incredible, relentless daily stress even when Mom and Dad are mature, responsible and fully-formed adults.

Grandparents

I am glad the grandparents now have the 4 small children and hope that they can provide a stable living situation, did they do their job as parents and discourage marriage and children at such a young age or these children going to be the product of the same values. Parenting is for mature adults!

Post partum problems

Post partum problems? I cannot imagine dealing with 4 children under 4 when I was 20.

Possible Self defense.

I saw another report where he pulled a knife on his wife and told her he was going to cut her throat. He then lunged for an 8mm as his wife grabbed a 22 cal and shot him before he could shoot her. He was a wife abuser who just bailed out on a domestic violence 2nd offense charge. He was going for payback on his wife.

More Murder?

Saturday. Richmond County Murder. Monday. Richmond County Murder. Tuesday. Aiken County Murder. Taking a human life is a tragic event in any situation. Obviously our law enforcement needs help. As a community it appears there is a certain lack of respect for life. Wish I had the answer but this needs to change.

Thanks, curly.

At any rate, 4 children at their ages is more stress than I would want.

wow

the kids are ok. If you can call your father being killed ok. What is the chance these kids will grow up to be well adjusted children? What is the chance these kids will end up on the front page of the Jail Report?

I, for one, have already put forth an inquiry into these kids hoping to be in a supervisory capacity.

Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath. Most in the system, stay in the system.

Sometimes, looking at the system as a whole, one would think it was designed to keep certain people DOWN. Why do you suppose that is the case?

4 children at 20

That means she has had a baby each year since the age of 16....I agree with the other posters ..that is a disaster in the making...add domestic abuse on top & you have a bomb in the making....

Remember the lady who drowned her kids--same thing going on...I'm sure more details will come out of this.

this is 2014. birth control
Unpublished

this is 2014. birth control has been around how long? there's no excuse for anyone to get pregnant anymore IF THEY DON'T WANT TO. this scenario is way too prevalent, though, all across this nation and until women get better empowered than what the so-called feminist movement has done for them so far, it will only get worse.

Maybe they wanted a lot of

Maybe they wanted a lot of kids. Maybe birth control is against their religion or personal beliefs.

Some people are like that.

Sorry To Be Harsh, But...

These were two "kids" that found out they were "potent" when she was sixteen !! After the first kid showed up, the couple's parents should've said/done something. Neither was of legal age @ the time. Both sets of parents had to approve the marriage. This was a train wreck waiting to happen, and the parents watched it happen. If was abused, why didn't her parents "have a little fun" with Junior. I sure would've.

Could you expound on that comment? At first thought, I don't know how LE can have an impact on people killing each other. It is a societal/cultural issue in my mind; and the only way to change the direction is to change the policies that subsidize bad behavior.

I doubt he was totally supporting his family. Our welfare system enables people having children they cannot afford.

Immorality has no race, no

Immorality has no race, no gender, & no address!! It's sort humorous to read how understanding certain readers are when murderers are not black and not from south Augusta.
