Henry Jefferson III, 51, was found dead inside the home at 3625 Crawfordville Drive, which Richmond County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were called to about 11 p.m., according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies found Karla Harter, 46, on fire outside the home. Neighbors helped put out the flames, but Harter suffered third-degree burns to 85 percent of her body. She was in critical condition at Doctors Hospital.

Authorities found Jefferson dead inside after the fire was extinguished.

Chief Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose said the body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Decatur for an autopsy Saturday.

The sheriff’s office and the coroner’s office are investigating the manner of death, Boose said.
