An Aiken man is dead after authorities say he was crushed by a tree that he was attempting to cut down.

Thomas Shealy, 73, of Aiken, died at 2:14 p.m. Thursday at his home after the tree fell on top of him, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said. He died from multiple body trauma.

Shealy was discovered by his wife, who was helping him with yard work. The incident happened about 12:45 p.m.

A neighbor and a local landscaper were able to remove Shealy from beneath the tree, but to no avail, Carlton said.

Sad but...

Sad, but we can all learn a lesson here. No matter what you do in life, it only takes ONE mistake and poof, you're gone.
