An Augusta woman was arrested Monday after, authorities said, she left her 1-year-old child unattended in an apartment complex on Fox Trace Drive.

Dokota Humphrey, 23, has been charged with deprivation to a minor, according to a Richmond County police report.

The child was found seated on a pile of clothes, wearing a diaper that was filled with urine that appeared to have been on for a long time, the report said.

The deputy found only adult snack food in the apartment, along with cleaning chemicals within reach of the child, according to the report.

The deputy remained at the apartment for about 35 minutes before Humphrey and a friend arrived. When the deputy asked Humphrey who was supposed to be looking after her child, she said “a friend,” the report said.

DFCS case worker Miranda McFarland said the suspect provided McFarland with three names of people who would pick up the child. After 90 minutes, however, no relative was found to take custody of the child and McFarland told the deputy that the child would be placed in a foster home, the report said.

Sorry parenting

IF this egg donor was on any kind of federal assistance, she should lose it, permanently. What kind of parent would leave their one-year old child at home alone. She does not deserve this child. If there is one, I hope that a responsible family member is awarded custody. This child doesn't stand a chance.

I wish they would charge

I wish they would charge these people with felony child abuse, because that's what it is.

That baby could've DIED while she was gone. Who would EVER leave a 1 year old by themselves?

I hope that her parental rights are terminated and the baby is permanently removed. She is unfit to have a child.

The Problem

The problem here, is that women this age, do not understand responsibility. They either cannot figure out how, or choose not to, practice birth control. They do however continue to spread their legs and receive sperm. When a child is produced, they lack the willingness to accept the responsibility for the life they have created. It is too bad that there has not been a replacement for Norplant created. Don't get me wrong, the guy is responsible also, he may not have ever been told. The real person that suffers is the child. NOT FAIR.

WELFARE
Unpublished

Many women today have kids just to get the welfare, housing and WIC benefits. They could care less about the child it's all about them and getting as much free stuff as possible. These sperm receptacles lack of responsibility ia the reason we have so much juvenile crime. These poor kids will never have a chance of a decent life as long as we keep going as we are. I agree with Corgi they should charge this woman will a felony and throw the book at her.

She's 23 years old!

Marinerman, while I agree with most of what you say (and gave you a thumbs up :-) ...she's 23, not 16, plenty old enough to be responsible for a child. She just CHOOSES not to be.

Unfit mother

should be also unfit to conceive any more children - sterilization should be implemented in cases like these and when more than one child is involved which has happened time and time again,. Maybe the welfare roll would get smaller.

"The problem here, is that women this age, do not understand responsibility."

I was 22 when my son was born, and I understood responsibility just fine.

It has nothing to do with her age and everything to with being an unfit mother.

In olden days, girls were

In olden days, girls were wedded and giving birth shortly after sexual maturity. They fared just fine, so I believe "mothering" is somewhat instinctual, not learned. Bottom line: If she is old enough to conceive, she is old enough to care for the child. This one is just unfit. Period.

The New 23 is 16

@Corgimom - the new 23 IS 16. At least that is how they act. I'm going to take a stab and say that when you gave birth @ 22, you were married, and did not sleep around, and were responsible. I'd also be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts, that you were not on the government dole either.

she was too busy trying to get back to the club so she can find her next "baby daddy" she probably spends more time on her back/knees making babies than taking care of the one she already have...oh wait that is true no probably about it....she left her poor child alone chances are she's probably pregnant again...all single pregnant females should be required to take a needs test to prove they are fit to take care of the child without government assistance-welfare for those "libbing in dogwood terrace, cooney circle, east augusta commons, olmstead homes, and river glen" they must show a stable work history, income other than welfare, failure to do so results in the baby removed by defacs and placed for immediate adoption.....just because these
broodmares" are old enuff to have children does not mean they have a right to do so, especially when they run directly to the welfare office expecting taxpayers to feed and clothe the children they give birth to

"They either cannot figure

"They either cannot figure out how, or choose not to, practice birth control. "

As the parent of an adopted child, there is always an alternative to neglecting a child after giving birth. This behavior is inexcusable. No babysitter___stay home.

This incident begs to question why in the world would businesses want to prevent coverage of contraceptives under the ACA?
