North Augusta man charged in slaying

Sullivan

A North Augusta man is facing murder charges after a fatal shooting early Sunday.

Aiken Department of Public Safety investigators have charged Jerome Sullivan, 31, in the death of Tamar Stewart, 30.

According to a statement, police responded to a shooting call at 125 Bennington Lane at 1:22 a.m. and found the victim inside with a fatal gunshot wound.

Sullivan was found a few minutes later and was stopped in his vehicle by patrol officers.

Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Tim Carlton.

The shooting appears to be the result of a domestic dispute, Carlton said, and the circumstances are being investigated by the Aiken Department of Public Safety, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Crime Scene Unit and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy was scheduled in Newberry, Carlton said.
