Police are searching for a person who cashed a stolen check at Georgia Bank and Trust.

Police said the check was stolen from a vehicle in Columbia County on March 1. Using identification and checking account information also stolen from the victim, the person was able to cash $1,000 out of the $2,100 check.

Investigator Clinton Faison said the remainder of the check had to be deposited into the victim’s checking account because of a bank policy.

Anyone with information can contact Faison at (706) 821-1453 during business hours or (706) 799-9788 after hours or on weekends.

Free $1100 ? ? ?

Huh? So the criminal wrote the check made payable to himself for $2100 against a GBT account. The criminal takes the check into GBT to cash it, GBT says they'll only give him $1000 and the balance will hae to be deposited into the victim's accounts (on which the check was written) ... Huh??? That's all sooo confusing ... !!!
