The deputies were working special duty at Club 3DL, 1524 Gordon Highway, when a fight broke out just before 2 a.m., according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report. Security removed four people from the club.

The officers were walking with one of them and telling the crowd to go to their vehicles when shots were fired in their direction.

After the gunfire stopped, officers saw Dominique Deangelo Holliman close the trunk to a gray Chevrolet Malibu and try to flee.

Officers drew their weapons and took Holliman into custody. A black assault rifle was in the trunk.

Holliman, of Dahlia Drive, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal damage to property, criminal trespass and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

But your honor he's a good boy who's turning his life around. He goes to church on Sunday and if that's not enough he was brought up in a troubled household and he's bi-polar. That should be enough for him to get first offender treatment.

Are You Kidding Me ??!!

Twenty-four years old. Already has a record. Shooting @ police with an assault rifle? Wonder who it is registered to? And we are supposed to share our oxygen with this piece of yak squeeze? Fortunately, he sux at accuracy, so the Deputies got to go home that night. Unfortunately, aggravated assault is not a Capital offense. He should be executed. A worthless human being. We should not have to feed/clothe/shelter. Eternal dirt nap.

Not A Capital Offense?

Attempted Murder and Assult on a Law Official; I think both might be Felonies. This young man will no doubtedly be charged with Felony Attempted Murder which in the state of Georgia may include Capital Punishment as a penalty.

It's too bad he was able to

It's too bad he was able to get that rifle back in the trunk before they were able to legally kill him right there in the parking lot. THAT would have been the optimum outcome.

I see he had a bench warrant in February '13 so this is obviously a scumbag whose name you will see over and over until he kills someone or someone kills him. Just too bad the cops couldn't legally pop him.

There is no "attempted

There is no "attempted murder" charge in Georgia. This guy will probably get 20-30 years if convicted and served 10-15 years.

Thank God he was a bad shot, and now, welcome to a very long time in prison, Mr. Idiot!!

Exactly why not everyone should have access to a gun, especially an "assault rifle."

PLEASE CORRECTLY DEFINE THE WEAPON

Black Assault Rifle?
Make and Model.
Semi or Full-Auto?

To be an Assault Weapon it must be a rapid-fire, magazine-fed Full automatic rifle with select fire option and be designed for infantry use.

So was it Full Auto, an a real MIL SPEC Assault Rifle?

Or,
was it just it a Walmart special, Self loading 1 shot per trigger pull
look alike Rambo/Shaft wanta-be rifle?

If it was semi-Auto aka self loading one fire per trigger pull.
Then it was nothing more than a Urban Hunting/Self Defense Rifle.

What is the definition of an

What is the definition of an assault weapon? Is there actually some item called that? All guns can be assault weapons, all crossbows, most knives, pellet guns, frozen hams, baseball bats, slanderous words, golf clubs, etc. and so on. Pretty much anything can be an assault weapon. What makes the difference is whose hands it is in and if the wielder has violent intent when using the item. Assault weapons. Good grief. If it was an assault weapon it could get up on its own and wreak havoc on humanity without anyone holding it.

"Assault Weapon" is a term

"Assault Weapon" is a term made up by anti-gun lawmakers and the media to frighten uneducated people. There's no such thing (my apologies, nocnoc.)

Either a weapon is fully automatic, mostly used by the military or law enforcement, or it's a semi-automatic, mostly used by the rest of us. The "AR" in AR-15 stands for "Armalite Rifle", the manufacturer of one of the first M-16 style rifles, not "assault rifle."

ANY weapon can be used in an assault, whether it's a rifle or pair of pantyhose, as AutumnLeaves said. The AR-15 style rifle is an all-around weapon for just about any use, but especially good for self-defense.

There's a video on YouTube showing young ladies using shotguns verses AR-15's. I know that somebody very publicly said to use a shotgun to fire a couple of rounds in the air to frighten off burglers, but watch the video. I'm willing to bet that every one of those young ladies has a healthy respect for an AR-15, and a sore backside courtesy of Mr. Shotgun.

Besides the poor reporting in this article referring to the rifle as an "assault weapon" (and hoping that it wasn't law enforcement that's responsible for that faux paus), it burns my backside everytime the media refers to a weapon used in a crime as "semi-automatic".

Unless it was a muzzle-loading rifle (you know, like. Daniel Boone's), of course it's semi-automatic! Most civilian-owned weapons are semi-automatic! You might as well say, when reporting an automobile accident, that two vehicles with automatic transmissions collided on I20 today near Augusta.

Of course they had automatic transmissions, most vehicles do! It has no bearing on the accident, just as reporting that a weapon used in a crime was semi-automatic, or an "assault weapon."

At least we don't live in California, where the Feds just raided a number of gun shops and took their customer lists, telling the shop owners to "keep quiet" about the lists being taken. ... and all that was in spite of a judge's order. "Let's see who bought what..."

Well Written!

By the way, just fired my "Assault Weapon" semi-automatic, 12 ga shot gun and assaulted a possum about 5 minutes ago. Had to pull the trigger twice, because I didn't have 2 3/4" buck shots. Nr.8's did the job.

I have to disagree - Assault Weapon Defined

See the following:
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/39165/assault-rifle
http://world.guns.ru/assault-e.html

THE NON-POLITICAL DEFINITION OF AN ASSAULT RIFLE
By MILITARY definition, a selective-fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of intermediate power. If applied to any semi-automatic firearm regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a true assault rifle, the term is incorrect.

BTW:
Don't fall for the other media trick of using the generic term
ASSAULT WEAPON to conjure up scary imagery. Because any item used during an assault, including a flicked booger, becomes a Assault Weapon.

Some Media outlets love to play word games, but the AC does not seem geared on doing this.

You said, "Unless it was a muzzle-loading rifle (you know, like. Daniel Boone's), of course it's semi-automatic!"

Your post is amazing except that sentence, not every firearm is semi-automatic that is not a muzzle loader. I mean if we are sharp shooting this reporter and taking them to task for incorrect nomenclature and definitions, let's at least stay 100% accurate with our own comments.

A revolver is not semi-automatic, a single shot is not semi-automatic, a bolt action is not semi-automatic, a pump action is not semi-automatic.

Just saying...

THAT was a response on FB to critical comments on the nice young men who shot up the club in Burke County. Don't you just love that rationale?

obviously a target of racial profiling...

The police didn't actually see him shoot at them, they took him into custody because he was a young black male and the police are racist who unjustly harass young black males. The AC is racist for publishing his picture in order to make black males look bad.

If the govt would spend a few more billion dollars on handouts and education, these disadvantaged, discriminated, misunderstood valuable members of society would become the pillars of the community they are striving to be.

I'm sure he was a good boy who never got into trouble and just hung out with some of the "wrong" people. This time he "made a mistake" and he will learn from it.

I hope I covered all the apologists points so they won't have to show up.

Right & Wrong!

"A revolver is not semi-automatic, a single shot is not semi-automatic, a bolt action is not semi-automatic, a pump action is not semi-automatic."

A revolver IS a semi-automatic unless it is a single action revolver. Semi-automatic means it will fire each time you pull the trigger. A single shot, bolt action, pump action and you left out lever action are not Semi-automatic.
